Living in a longhouse is the way of life of the Land and Sea Dayaks of Sarawak. It is a community-dwelling constructed of belian and bamboo, roofed with atap and standing on stilts. Visit a Bidayuh Land Dayak longhouse, situated about 80km (an hour) from Kuching. En route you can view the countryside dotted with paddy fields, cocoa smallholdings, pepper vineyards, and old rubber plantations. The narrow road to the village is often shaded by jungle foliage and primary rainforest. Explore the longhouse, feel and take a peek at the human skulls kept at the “headhouse” or the "baruk" as they are known in the community. Observe their way of life and learn about their culture.
