Greenhills, San Juan City is the ideal destination for smart shoppers and foodies. If you intend on having a full day of shopping and de-stress right after, then this is a destination worth going to.
Greenhills is commonly known as one of the shopping destinations in Metro Manila especially during Christmas season. In this area is a building with hundreds of vendors. Initially, the place was well-known for the wide range of brand new and used selling of mobile phones and other electronic devices. Now, these vendors are selling practically anything you could think of – from clothes to shoes to bags for men, women and children. Name it, you will surely find it in Greenhills.
If going by bus, there are two recommended ways: via Ortigas Avenue riding the famous green bus: G-Liner or via EDSA Southbound if riding from any point between North Avenue and Kamuning. Take EDSA Northbound if riding from any point between Magallanes and Shaw. You can get off Greenhills – if riding G-Liner, then the bus drops you directly at Greenhills Shopping Center; if taking the EDSA route, you will need to walk or ride a jeep going to the shopping center. The fare would cost around PHP10.00 – PHP40.00 depending on the distance of the ride.
If you prefer the train, take the MRT 3 line Southbound if riding from any point between SM North station and Kamuning station. If riding from any point between Magallanes station and Ortigas station, take the Northbound train. The station destination is MRT Annapolis station. The fare for the train would cost around PHP20.00 – PHP30.00 depending on the point of departure.
If going by car, the best suggestion is to take EDSA then turn to Ortigas Avenue to get to Greenhills Shopping Centre. The developer has built parking buildings with ample amount of spaces for cars to accommodate the volume of shoppers coming and going to the centre.
The shopping centre itself is fairly manageable in terms of getting around. The best way to go around is the most basic way, which is walking. If you would want to explore further outside the complex, there are metered taxis or cars for rent available to take you to your desired destination.
There is a portion in Greenhills Shopping Center that can be seen by thousands of motorists passing along Ortigas Avenue every day. Every Christmas season, starting on the first “ber” month, which is September, the shopping centre management decorates it for Christmas with a specific theme – planned months in advance, people look forward to witnessing the unveiling of this area every year.
Another venue to visit is a little bit outside the complex, which is Club Filipino. It is an exclusive club but deemed historical because this is where former Philippine President Corazon C. Aquino was sworn in as president in 1986.
If you go a little further and into the heart of San Juan city, you will find the Pinaglabanan church and shrine. This is the site where the first battle of the revolution broke in August 1896 and in commemoration of those who fought and died in battle, a small monument was erected in the area.
The first thing that comes to mind is shopping, shopping, shopping. The most popular building – Shoppesville is where all the vendor stalls are. If you are with a Philippine resident, it is very rare that they have not been to this place at least once to buy clothes or shoes or even jewellery. The best part is the bargain, aside from absolutely affordable prices, there is still room for bargain.
Every few years, the management sees to it that they renovate the area to suit the times. Now, Shoppesville is joined by other shopping buildings such as V-Mall, Theatre Mall and Promenade.
Another recommended activity is food trip – choose from a wide range of restaurants with varying cuisines. From Filipino to American to French. Truly a one-stop destination for all your urban needs – Greenhills will guarantee that you would never want to leave the place.
You will find almost any cuisine you are craving for in the centre. The most famous is the Chinese restaurant, Gloria Maris, this branch is one of, if not the biggest branch of the franchise. Enjoy authentic dimsum while in a fine dining ambience.
For the more healthy eats, you can check out Sariwon Korean Barbecue, Tampopo or Yumi. All these offer their respective country’s cuisines but with their own twist. Surely dining here will never be a bore and each dining experience would be a whole new adventure.
For sweet endings, the Carousel Creamery and Rita’s Italian Ice, which will surely give a perfect ending to your day.
The nightlife is equally rich in Greenhills. Within the complex, there are also a number of bars to choose from – the most popular in recent years are McLaren’s Pub along Wilson street and Chivz Bar in G-Strip. Cost for a steady nightlife for two persons range from PHP900.00 – PHP1,000.00.
Majority of residential areas in Greenhills are condominiums and horizontal developments (houses). Greenhills hotels can be classified under those that are located within Greenhills on point, or on neighboring areas such as Ortigas.
There is the Greenhills Elan Hotel Modern, located a few hundred meters from Greenhills Shopping Center. Some options for hotels near Greenhills are Metro Manila and Holiday Inn by Robinson’s Galleria.
Wear comfortable walking shoes since you will be expecting to be walking the whole day.
Store your money in a less revealing compartment or wallet.
