"While La Union and Siargao are most popular for being surfing meccas in the Philippines, Daet in Camarines Norte is also becoming one of the hottest surfing and kiteboarding spots in the country. Surfers gather in Bagasbas Beach, a locally accredited surfing spot. Most of the areas in Daet are considered pristine since there are few to no resorts in the islands just off its coast."

More about Daet

Daet is an unspoken wonder of the Bicol Region. The region continues to boost its tourism industry by captivating local and international visitors alike with its fine sand beaches and paradise islands with pristine blue waters.

Mayon Volcano Bicol Region

Main sources of livelihood include production of fine jewelry, agriculture of pineapple and coconut as well as fishery. Due to its abundant supply, the emerging commercial crop in the province is the Formosa pineapple or the queen variety, according to the Philippine Information Agency.

How to Go

By plane

You may opt to take a commercial flight to Daet’s neighboring province in Naga, Camarines Sur, and travel to Camarines Norte by land which takes about two hours.

By land transportation

If you are coming from Metro Manila, the most common mode of transportation to Daet is by bus which takes around six to eight hours of travel time. Terminals in either Pasay City or Quezon City serve passengers from the metro to the town capital in Daet.

Getting Around

Jeepneys, minibuses and shuttle vans provide transportation within the province. Moreover, tricycles also operate and cater services to locals on a special trip basis.

Tourist Attractions

Whether you are looking for a quiet time at the beach or a water adventure, Camarines Norte may be the perfect place for you.

Bagasbas Beach

Bagasbas Beach is one of the most visited tourist spots in Daet. This beach is said to be the “surfing capital” in the Bicol region. It known for its long stretch beach with fine, grey sand and moderate to big waves, and sandy bottoms, which is consistent all year round making it perfect for surfing.

The Siete Pecados or the Mercedes Group of Islands in Daet is composed of seven islands namely, Puao Grande, Apuao Pequena, Canimog, Canton, Caringo, Malasungi, and Quinapaguian. All have fine white sand beaches and features such as marine sanctuaries, ruins, lighthouses, and more that you can also check out.

A trip to Daet will not be complete without the Calaguas group of Islands. Its powdery white sand and pristine blue waters are comparable to Boracay Island, another world-famous Philippine beach which is located in the Visayas region. Unlike Boracay, there are lesser commercial establishments in Calaguas and it is ideal to bring your own tent and other supplies.

Other local attractions in Daet include Mampurog River and Pineapple Island Resort.

Top Things to Do

Calaguas Island

Daet is ideal for travelers who love water sport activities. Visitors may enjoy swimming, snorkeling and island hopping at Mercedes Group of Islands or Calaguas Islands. Its white sand beaches like in Bulalacao Beach are perfect for picnic with family and friends, while the strong winds in Bagasbas Islands are good for kite flying or kiteboarding.

You may also learn more about Camarines Norte’s rich history at Museo Bulawan.

A trip will not be complete without a gastronomic feast. The Bicol Region is known for its spicy and creamy cuisine thanks to its not-so-secret ingredient, coconut milk.

Complete your visit to Daet by enjoying the local cuisine such as Bicol Express, Laing (gabi leaves in coconut milk) or Sinantol (ground santol meat with coconut milk), among others.

Moreover, do not forget the sweet Formosa pineapples the province takes pride in which are also perfect as pasalubong.

Where to Eat

Bicol Express

Gata or coconut milk is a staple in any Bicolano recipe. The creaminess of the coconut milk combines well with the hotness of the chili, another distinct taste in the local cuisine.

Catherine’s Restaurant at Bagasbas Beach and Paseo de Bienvenidas in Daet serve the best Bicolano dishes, while Chef Mama in Calasagan is a go-to dessert place in town.

Nightlife

Daet is a rather reserved town but still knows how to have fun nevertheless. There are strings of KTV and restobars to unwind in such as Jasmine Videoke Bar, Frinx Food & Drinks, and Tropper’s KTV and Bar. Enough time for more cold shots to cap your hard working week.

Where to Stay

Hotels, homestays and bed and breakfasts are available in Daet. Hotel Formosa, which is located on Vinzons Avenue, is popular among tourists. It offers a 24-hour front desk, Wi-Fi connection and free breakfast and parking
