Events in Marina Bay

Overview of Events in Marina Bay

Marina Bay is a must-visit destination for locals and travellers alike. This iconic area is home to Marina Bay Sands, a stunning architectural masterpiece that transformed the city's skyline when it opened in 2010. The integrated resort features a grand convention centre, luxury accommodation, a large casino, and ‘The Shoppes’, a mall featuring premium brands and fine dining.

What makes Marina Bay even more appealing is its calendar packed with events. From the iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks to cultural festivals and sporting events, there’s everything. Marina Bay Sands alone has hosted everything from celebrity chef restaurant launches to grand exhibitions. During the festive season, the Bay transforms into a wonderland with markets, light installations, and activities for all ages. It will go best if you plan to spend your holidays in SG with a list of events and ultimate guides to them!

Must-Attend Events in Marina Bay

Since Marina Bay is where some of Singapore’s most exciting events happen throughout the year, here are some of the must-attend ones for you to explore!

1. Marina Bay Sands Light and Water Show

If you’re looking for a way to cap off your evening in Singapore, the Marina Bay Sands Light and Water Show is definitely worth checking out. This nightly spectacle combines fountains, lasers, and light projections, all perfectly synced to music. With the city skyline in the background, it’s a pretty magical sight, and the best part? It’s free to watch, although certain premium programmes might have extra charges.

The show timings are super convenient too. From Sunday to Thursday, you’ve got two chances to catch it at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, there’s an extra slot at 10:00 p.m. It’s a great excuse to linger around Marina Bay after dinner or to wind down after a day of sightseeing.

Getting there is straightforward. The Event Plaza is at 10 Bayfront Avenue, right at Marina Bay Sands. If you’re taking the MRT, just head to Bayfront Station (CE1/DT16) on the Circle or Downtown Line. Services run from about 6:00 a.m. to midnight daily, so transport is hassle-free.

2. i Light Singapore

Known as Asia’s leading sustainable light festival, i Light Singapore is an event that’s all about creativity and raising awareness for the environment. The festival features 17 light art installations, designed by artists from Singapore and beyond, using energy-saving lighting and eco-friendly materials. Each piece tells a story and encourages us to think about living more sustainably.

The festival doesn’t charge admission, so you can enjoy the sights at no cost. As you wander through Marina Bay and its surrounding areas, you’ll find plenty to do beyond the installations. There are often activities and pop-up events.

Getting there is straightforward with public transport. Key stations like Bayfront, Downtown, City Hall, Marina Bay, and Raffles Place will put you right in the heart of the action. For installations at other spots, like Millenia Walk or Tanjong Pagar, nearby stations like Promenade or Maxwell make it easy to get around. Public transport is definitely the way to go to avoid traffic and parking hassles.

3. New Year’s Eve Countdown

Planning NYE in Singapore? Marina Bay is the place to be. The area lights up with an epic fireworks display, live music, and tons of activities. It’s the ultimate spot to ring in 2025 with a bang.

The fireworks are the main event, but the vibe around the bay is just as exciting. There are music, performances, and a fun crowd to welcome the new year.

Getting there is easy with several MRT stations nearby, including Bayfront and Marina Bay. Just make sure to get there early to grab a good spot, because it gets packed quickly. It’s definitely a must-do if you’re in Singapore for the celebrations.

4. Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix

The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is an event like no other, held on the Marina Bay Street Circuit – the first-ever night race in Formula 1 and the first street circuit in Asia. This thrilling race will take place from 3rd to 5th October, 2025, right in the heart of the city.

What sets this race apart is not just the high-speed action on track, but the full experience around it. The streets of Marina Bay light up with concerts, parties, and loads of entertainment throughout the weekend. It’s a great chance to enjoy world-class racing while soaking in the lively atmosphere of Singapore’s iconic waterfront.

If you're heading to the event, you’ll find it’s easy to get there with public transport. Gate 1 at Republic Blvd is accessible via Nicoll Highway Station (CC5) on the Circle Line. Gate 2 at Temasek Avenue is close to Promenade Station (CC4 Circle Line/DT15 Downtown Line). For access to Gates 3A and 3B at Stamford, you can use City Hall Station (NS25 North-South Line/EW13 East-West Line) or Esplanade Station (CC3 Circle Line). With these convenient transport options, getting to the event is a breeze.

5. Singapore National Day Parade

The Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) on 9th August is the country’s biggest annual celebration. It marks Singapore’s independence with a mix of performances, military displays, and cultural acts. The parade starts at 6.30pm, but it’s worth arriving earlier for the pre-parade segment at 5.30pm. This part features exciting floats, marching bands, and various performances, setting the tone for the main event.

As the night goes on, the official parade kicks off with impressive displays of precision and skill, including jaw-dropping aerial stunts. But the highlight is the fireworks show – nothing compares to watching those fireworks light up the sky over Marina Bay. No matter where you're from, the National Day Parade is a great way to experience Singapore’s heart and soul.

Getting to the NDP is pretty easy. You can hop on the MRT, with Downtown MRT Station (DT17) just a 5-minute walk from Exit B. Raffles Place MRT Station (NS26/EW14) is a bit further, but still only 6 minutes from Exit J. Other options like Marina Bay MRT Station (NS27/CE2) and Bayfront MRT Station (DT16/CE1) are also nearby, just 9 and 12 minutes’ walk respectively. The area can get busy, so if you're driving, it might be better to take public transport.

6. Christmas Wonderland

Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay is one of those events that really gets you into the holiday vibes. Running from 29th November 2024 to 1st January 2025, this year’s edition promises even bigger and better presents with more lights, festive performances, and other fun experiences.

One of the highlights is the magical ‘snowfall’ in the tropics, which adds an unexpected touch of winter wonderland feel right in the heart of Singapore's tropical climate. You'll also find a trio of photo-ready Cheerful Bears, an enchanted forest to explore, and a variety of festive treats to savour.

Getting there is super straightforward, especially if you're coming from the city centre. The nearest MRT station is Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16). From there, simply follow Exit B and take the underground line towards Gardens by the Bay. You will walk across the Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge to get to the event centre. It's very convenient, so you can focus on enjoying the festivities without worrying about the logistics.

7. Art Exhibitions and Shows at ArtScience Museum

The ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology. Opened in 2011, the museum quickly became one of Singapore's iconic cultural spots. With its unique lotus-inspired design, it's impossible to miss, and once inside, you'll find a range of exhibitions that are both engaging and thought-provoking.

One of the standout exhibitions at the museum is Future World: Where Art Meets Science. This immersive experience brings together art and technology to create interactive installations that allow you to step into another world.

If you're a fan of animation, you won't want to miss the World of Studio Ghibli exhibit. Showcasing the beloved works of Hayao Miyazaki and his Studio Ghibli team, this exhibition gives visitors a deeper look into the magical worlds created by the studio. From iconic films like Spirited Away to My Neighbor Totoro, it's a treat for fans and newcomers alike.
