Staff were great and friendly but room was not good

To be blunt you get what you pay for and the room is cheap so keep that in mind. I had the king size suite king size bed. 2 single beds pushed together does not make it king size im average 6ft and my feet hang over the edge, no aircon just a fan from the 80s that doesnt do anything or move any air a window opens only slightly with no flt screen so bug city when open. No fridge they have a kettle and 2 cups but no coffee or spoons, the glasses in the batheroom had not been cleaned from the last guest. Pretty awful and cheap but you get what you pay for, in this day and age spend $1000 put in a new fan and tv and fridge and the rest can be forgiven.

The staff were amazing, but no air conditioning upstairs where the rooms were and was like a sauna it was a 30* degree day plus our fan in our room didn’t work properly it was just on slow motion so it was very uncomfortable trying to get ready to go downstairs to the pub to a function We couldn’t sleep because it was very uncomfortable way to hot Plus soap should be provided in the bathroom for washing hands

Room is not as advertised. Boiling hot and the airconditioner does not work, bathrooms are communal and the fan does not work.

Basic accomdation in central Newcastle. Shared bathroom is fine. For one night it is fine for travellers. The pub downstairs is convenient. Plenty of street parking.

Rooms could use an air conditioner

Very average - unfortunately. The second room we booked had such a bad smell - not sure if it was vomit or smoke we had to change rooms - v happy the staff could accommodate this!

The rooms were clean and comfortable however we booked two separate rooms. One room was located on the corner of the building on a intersection. The noise from the road was a little more than expected. There was a constant noise in the background which we could not determine where it was coming from. I asked my friend if he wanted to swap rooms but he stuck it out. The other room was not as noisy. The shared bathrooms could do with some upgrade. There is no soap dispenser near the hand basins so going to the toilet and no soap to wash hands was disappointing. The shower facility was good but would benefit from a small shelf or wooden stand to put your clean clothes on and your personal items while in the shower. Overall the facilities were great for what we required. I would imagine that most people would not be staying at the facility for multiple days (we were there for 5 days. The staff cleaning the rooms were great. I asked for clean towels on day 3 and the staff were more than accommodating to provide what I required - the staff member even asked was there anything else he could get me. All in all I enjoyed the stay as I have never stayed in hotel/pub accommodation before it was a new experience. All the staff I interacted with were fabulous. Well done crew.

Cleanliness and quietness

Didn't stay for the night as we could not find a close parking space. Main problem is with Wotif, who did not give detailed specifics; culminating in a non-refund. The General Roberts Hotel looked good, from the photos, which is why we chose it for a one night stay. Will not use Wotif again. When I phoned the Hotel to cancel the room, staff were friendly and understanding. Above ratings based on photos and what the property looked like as we drove nearby.

Good value - I heard the pub music till midnight and some traffic noise in the morning so not the quietest location. Staff were great and pub is nice place to hang out. There is nothing in the room other than a bed and sink.

A really good pub to spend a week at while visiting a friend. Lovely staff.

The staff was helpful and friendly, but the photo looks better than what you see when you turn up. You get what it says, ordinary room, shared bathroom, toilet at a good price. There's no parking here next to the football club, so don't bring your caravan.

I was very disappointed to see that my room didn’t have a bathroom. This was not advertised on the page and the place smelled like cigarettes and fry food. People from the other rooms were very noisy, banging on the doors and screaming.

All good value for money

The room was not as advertised. I paid for what I believed had private facilities, as described in the room description. The confirming email shows a room absolutely nothing like I booked. To have such a room would cost me another $30-$50 per night. No hot water in the room. Room/mattress/pillows smelt of stale smoke. Stained bed cover. Good points: the shared facilities were very clean.

Have stayed in many pub style rooms but this one was the worst. The pub itself was good, bistro food was great but the accommodation lets it all down. Smelly room, no tv, poor lighting, bed older than my grandmothers and stained throw cushions, yuk. Although the price was super cheap and they say you get what you pay for, BUT is this really a reason to skimp on the small touches that could leave a guest wanting to return? Maybe! NOT me. I used the room to get dressed in then left the keys in the return box on my way out, was not going sleep in that stinky cold room.
