More about Stulang Bahru

Stulang Bahru is a modern township located in the state of Johor, Malaysia. Together with Stulang, it is considered as a suburb of the Johor Bahru city which is also the district capital of Johor Bahru. Located approximately 5 kilometres away from city centre, it is administered under the Johor Bahru City Council with Jalan Stulang Bahru as the main road. Previously, it was used to be a small fishing village facing towards the Straits of Johor. Nowadays, a lot of commercial shops and shopping malls are built here in close proximities to each other as well as housing flats and condominiums. In addition to that, it is also close to royal palace of the Johor Sultan, namely Pasir Pelangi. As a matter of fact, this township is also in near distance to other major tourist attractions in Johor Bahru, which in turn have boosted its livelihood especially with the influx of Singaporeans entering Malaysia through Johor.

Tourist Attractions

Stulang Beach

Stulang Beach or also known as Stulang Laut Beach is the waterfront area at the east side of Johor Bahru, located alongside Jalan Sultan Ibrahim. The beach gets its name from the Stulang Laut Village, which is a village located along the coast. It is a relatively small beach in comparison to the usual beaches, nonetheless, it is good for a small walk and to enjoy the view facing the sea and having a glance of Singapore from Johor. A lot of people would come here to have a picnic in groups too. Nearby, there is a duty-free shop, hotels and a ferry terminal for trips to Batam and Bintan of Indonesia.

Johor Zoo

This zoo is located Jalan Gertak Merah, Johor Bahru which is nearby the Royal Museum and Johor Bahru Palace Grounds and can be found pretty quickly upon entering the town. It is one of the oldest zoos, its establishment can be traced way back in 1928, being opened by the late Johor King, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar. In comparison to other zoos in the country, this zoo is rather medium-sized and at one point was once considered as an “animal garden”. There are at least a hundred species of animals including but not limited to gorillas, elephants, flamingos, horses, lions and much more, some of the species being already at an endangered state. The compound is well-maintained with food stalls and animal shows for entertainment with family and friends. The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, while the entrance fee is just three ringgit per person.

Taman Merdeka

This recreational park is located at Jalan Kolam Ayer. Opened to the public in 2011, this park took nine years of construction at a cost of 13 million ringgit. Aside from the wide compounds and trails for jogging, there are also musical fountains, which is accompanied by lights at night. The parks are arranged to have a total of nine lawns, each depicting a chapter in the modern history of Malaysia (then Malaya) till it achieved independence.
