— What You Can Expect —
[Miyama]
Miyama is a beautiful and quiet village surrounded by mountains in Nantan City in the northern part of Kyoto City. Miyama's most popular tourist spot is Kayabuki no Sato, a historic village consisting of 50 houses with thatched roofs built roughly 150–200 years ago. Around 39 of these houses are private residences which people still live in today. This rare landscape resulted in the village becoming a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in December 1993. Tourists visit throughout the year to experience its unique atmosphere.
[Keihoku]Â
Keihoku is famous for the Joshokoji Temple, a Zen temple from the Tenryu-ji school of the Rinzai sect. It was commissioned by Emperor Kogon in 1362. The garden, said to have been designed based on the surrounding natural scenery, is a calming place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, charming all those who come across it. In spring, visitors can view the kokonoe-zakura cherry blossoms (a designated Japanese natural monument), and in autumn, the stunning red leaves in the inner garden of the main hall. These and more give the temple a special allure all year round.
[Shops Near Shuzan Bus Terminal]
Shuzan Bus Terminal is conveniently located near shops and other buildings essential for travelers such as the post office, Tokiwa (the A5, A4 Japanese black cow beef specialty store), Jigenji Temple, the Haneda Shuzo sake brewery, and the Roadside Station Woody Keihoku souvenir shop.
