Not my first time visiting the temple. However, the first time after the policy of different ticket. Would be better if they have an extra counter in near the temple if someone decided to go inside the temple. That way, no time to waste for walking to the main gate.

sooooo exciting, after a long time not being to Borobudur, a lot has changed, starting from the parking lot which has now moved to the very west side next to the new museum which also has Borobudur souvenirs. from there, take the shuttle which is also provided for free to the entrance counter, during the exchange the officers were very informative, we got two tickets, one free entry ticket for mineral water and the other ticket to climb the temple which will later be placed on our hands. then to the ticket exchange place to get drinks and offerings, we were given a free bag to put our stuff in. each group got one tour guide, we could explore the top of the temple which had a very beautiful view accompanied by a very informative guide, on the way back from the exit, take another shuttle from the temple, which is free and always available, really exciting, must try!!

The whole trip was handled efficiently by the staff members and guides. Each group of 100 was allowed 1 hour on the temple structure. We had to check in and out with a QR code. There was plenty of time and lots of personal space to take good photos.

It was our first time to go but we didn't want to book a tour package. We.were having difficulty where to book just the Borobudur ticket because we learned from blogs that the ticket to go up sells fast and highly recommended to buy online and ahead of time. We booked the train tickets from Jakarta to Yogyakarta via Traveloka and after that, there was already a recommendation for the BorobudurTemple tickets. We were so happy to have booked just the ticket. Thanks to Traveloka! Such a wonderful app!

Borobudur Temple

An Overview: Borobudur Temple

Candi Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, was built in the 8th century by the Sailendra Dynasty, which ruled over Java at that time. Its original purpose was to serve as a place of worship for Buddhists, as well as a pilgrimage site. The structure represents the journey of the human soul towards enlightenment, with its ten levels symbolizing the different stages of spiritual growth, from the earthly world at the bottom to the realm of nirvana at the top. The design and layout of the temple reflect deep Buddhist philosophies and teachings, shown through detailed carvings on the walls, which tell the story of Buddha's life and the spiritual lessons he shared.

In the 14th century, the temple was abandoned and slowly became buried under volcanic ash and dense forest growth. It wasn’t until 1814 that British governor Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles rediscovered Borobudur during his exploration of Java. Since then, several restoration projects have been carried out to return the temple to its original glory, including a major restoration by UNESCO in the 1970s. Today, Borobudur is not only a significant religious monument but also a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Indonesia’s most popular tourist attractions.

Location Details and Operating Hours

Candi Borobudur is located in Central Java, Indonesia, at Jl. Badrawati, Kw. Candi Borobudur, Borobudur, Kec. Borobudur, Kabupaten Magelang. It is surrounded by lush greenery and hills, making the environment peaceful and refreshing. The temple is easily accessible from the nearby city of Yogyakarta, a popular tourist hub.

The temple is open to visitors Tuesday - Sunday from 06:30 in the morning until 17:00 in the evening, local time. The last time you can redeem your ticket for entry is at 16:00, so make sure to plan your visit accordingly.

At the very top of the temple, you’ll be greeted with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside, including Mount Merapi in the distance.
