-What You Can Expect-
Unique to Hokkaido's Shakotan Peninsula coastline is its distinctive blue dubbed "Shakotan blue". Walking through the sea-mounted ridge to the end of Cape Kamui and looking out, you see a panoramic view of the "Shakotan blue" ocean. Strolling in this secluded place at ease, you find it hard to put the scenery along the way into words. This is a place that frees urban dwellers from worries and allows them to admire the seascape and savor the tranquility.
Shimamui Coast's seawater is clear and transparent and was included in "Japan's Top 100 Best Beaches". To arrive at the coast, you need to pass through a 30-meter dark tunnel, along which the scenery is strongly recommended by the Shakotan Tourism Association. Extremely dark as the 30-meter tunnel is, the moment you exit the tunnel, your eyes will be pulled in by the deep blue sea. It is a beautiful, sapphire and a must-see coast.
*It operates between late-April and late-October; roughly 40 minutes for a voyage.
Cape Kamui of the Shakotan Peninsula is the only place in Hokkaido that is designated as a "Sea Park". It is hailed as the most beautiful sea in Hokkaido, thanks to its highly transparent and beautiful color which is dubbed "Shakotan blue".
The Shakotan Glass-boat seats 78; it is one of the few sightseeing boats in Hokkaido which offers an underwater view. Aside from enjoying the natural beauty of the Shakotan seascape from the deck, you can also enjoy the ever-changing scenery of the Shakotan seabed. In addition, seagull bait is available, which you may use to enjoy the fun of interacting with seagulls. The 40-minute sea walk on the Shakotan Glass-boat will bring you joys and emotion different from that derived from sighting on land.
*Operation might be suspended on an ad-hoc basis on the given day due to changes in seasonal weather, in which case services will be unavailable. Please pardon the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
※ The Shakotan Glass Boat's operating hours will be based on the official arrangement. If it's closed earlier this year, you will be refunded for the boat and visit Cape Kamui instead
*Fruit picking period: late-June to mid-October.
With 143 years of history, Yamamoto Fruits Farm sits on 15–17 hectares of land, on which fresh fruits such as cherries, strawberries, pears, grapes, blueberries, peaches, apples, and chestnuts are grown. Each type of fruit is harvested between June and November.
You are allowed to savor multiple fruits, as many as you wish. You can have a square meal at Yamamoto Fruits Orchard. (Plan B only)
※ If the orchard is closed or does not have enough yield for picking, the tour will arrange for travellers to pick at another orchard nearby
Every historic building and old warehouse alongside Otaru Canal reminds you of the prosperity and ancient look of the Otaru Canal. You also have the opportunity to admire the Otaru Canal under the sunset afterglow; the strikingly beautiful sunset scenery just renders an exotic tone.
