Never leave London on the weekend without booking a hotel on your return. This is what we experienced when trying to find a hotel on a sunny Saturday afternoon by the beautiful River Mersey in Liverpool: trouble! All the one-star and three-star hotels have been fully occupied, leaving only five-star hotels with skyrocketing prices and able to reach the surface of the moon. The search then turned to Manchester in the hope that there would be vacancies left. It turned out to be in vain, Manchester was also fully booked. Our intention to stop by for a while there was dashed. The route was changed again, now to the homeland of heavy metal: Birmingham! Yes, there is an empty room! This Holiday Inn Express Lichfield: The price is very affordable for Indonesians like us, has a large car park, and what's even more enjoyable is you got a breakfast too! Yeay! The location is not really in the city of Birmingham, a bit to the outskirts and about 30 minutes drive there. After midnight checking in we were greeted warmly by the clerk at the reception. The check-in process took less than 5 minutes and we already got the key to our room which is located on the second floor. This time there was an elevator so that even our large suitcases were unloaded from the trunk of the car without any difficulty. There were two beds for the four of us, one of which was a sofa bed that had been folded into a bed. The size of the room is not too big, but again, it doesn't matter. The bathroom is only equipped with a WC and shower, there is no bath tub like in our previous hotels. It doesn't matter, we're too tired to even criticize it. Waking up we went straight to the breakfast table and found a fairly complete menu (full English breakfast!) And five-star standards for the size of a transit hotel. The taste of the food is also very delicious. The staffs were friendly and warmly greeted our two children. Next to the hotel there is a Costa coffee shop as well as an M&S food outlet. Very helpful for those who are hungry in the middle of the night. We assume they are open 24 hours, remember, this is an assumption. Even though we only spent one night here, we were very satisfied. Good sleep, good breakfast! What else do you need?
