Jitra is a city located in the Kubang Pasu parliamentary constituency of Kedah Darul Aman. Jitra is near the border of Kedah – Thailand and about 35 kilometres from the border. The city is located north of Alor Setar, south of Changlun, east of Ayer Hitam and west of Pokok Sena and Kuala Nerang. This city is the administrative city of the Kubang Pasu district which is located in the town of Changlun and Ayer Hitam. During World War II, when the Japanese attacked Malaya, Jitra was on the one of main lines of defence set up by the British and one of the fiercest battles during the British defence of Malaya were fought here.

How to Get There

By Car

From Kuala Lumpur city centre, you can drive to reach Ayer Hitam by using North- South highway which takes around 5 hours.

By Plane

You can take flights such as Malindo Air, Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines from Kuala Lumpur international airport to Sultan Abdul Halim Airport at Alor Setar. It usually takes around 55 minutes to reach airport and from airport, you can rent a car or take a taxi that takes another 30 minutes to reach Ayer Hitam.

Darualaman Park

Bandar Baru Darulaman was transformed from a small town formerly known as Tanah Merah and located about 5 kilometres from Jitra town and about 18 kilometres from Alor Setar City, the capital city for Kedah, Malaysia. The park was initially a natural lake and open daily and had become a place of activities for public residents around Darulaman area. Parents usually bring their kids for kiddy rides or play with gigantic soap bubbles while many enjoy the jog around the lake. There are also water activities where visitors can ride on the paddle boat or canoeing. The operation hour of this park is 8.00am to 12.00pm and 4.00pm to 8.00pm. Visitors are advised to not bring dogs and pets as they are not allowed. Large gatherings also require permit to reserve site.

Bukit Wang Recreational Forest

This forest is located in the Bukit Perangin Forest Reserve which has a dipterocarp forest. There is a river called Tosak River that have unique stones. This recreational Forest consists of various flora and fauna from low to high dipterokarp Fores . Among the famous attraction here is 'Permatang Seraya' which is a row of Meranti tree (Shorea curtisii) which measures over 120 centimetres diameter. No entrance fees apply and parking fees are also not applicable as well as spacious parking spaces are available.
