Kuala Ibai is a coastal and suburban settlement in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. The name of Ibai is synonym to one famous stream known as, Sungai Ibai. Sungai Ibai is nearby to Pengkalan Tangkul, Kampung Kuala Tok Adis and Kampong Kuala Ibai. Sungai Ibai is also close to Taman Rekreasi Teluk Ibai. The people in this settlement are mostly Malays, yet there is also a number of Chinese, Indians, Siamese and Orang Asli. As Malays being the majority, the language spoken is distinct from the standard Malay language. The people in Kuala Ibai or the people in Terengganu generally speak coastal Terengganu Malay. They have their own distinctive dialect where they stress on the phoneme ‘ng’ at every end of the word they utter. Other than speaking with won dialect, the people are also known for their signature food such as ‘nasi dagang’, attire such as ‘batik’ and ‘songket’ and a few more.
Kuala Ibai can be reached by land and air transportation. Driving a car from Kuala Lumpur, we can head to Jabor, Pahang to enter Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) or East Coast Expressway that can lead us straight to Kuala Terengganu.
If we feel like taking a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Ibai, go get the bus ticket at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) or Integrated Bus Terminal. The journey will take approximately six hours.
From Kuala Lumpur, we can also reach Kuala Ibai by taking a flight either at Subang Airport or KLIA2 to Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu, which is the nearest airport to Kuala Ibai. Then, get a taxi to reach Kuala Ibai.
It is a central market where the locals call it Pasar Payang. It is one of the most visited tourist spots in Terengganu for it sells their popular products. Sited by the Terengganu River and housed in a well-built complex, the merchandised products are Terengganu traditional handicrafts such as batik, silk, songket, brocade and brassware and a lot more. The prices are also reasonable that makes the visitors to must-shop here before leaving Terengganu.
Islamic Heritage park is well-known for the scaled-down replicas of 22 famous monuments from the Islamic world. This park is claimed as an edutainment park where visitors can learn about the spread of Islamic civilization by marvelling at the detailed of the replicas. Admission Fees to this monument park are RM25 for adult RM10 discount for adult MyKad holders, RM15 for senior citizens and children age 7-12 whereas free for children age 6 and below. The visitors can also wander about and buy souvenirs at the shopping arcade, try out signature Terengganu’s cuisine at the food court and get to cruise along the nearby river at river cruise jetty.
Located near the Islamic Heritage Park, visitors can also visit the state’s most popular and beautiful mosque known as Crystal Mosque. Built at the riverbank, this mosque is made up of steel and glass. The reflection appears on the building when the sun shines makes it looks like a crystal thus the people call it as Crystal Mosque.
