This mosque is the first real floating mosque in Malaysia. It is located in Kuala Terengganu Town, Terengganu. This mosque’s construction began in 1993 and it was completed on 1995. The official date it was opened was in July 1995. It was officiated by Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, who was the late Sultan of Terengganu. The mosque was named after the mother of Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah which is Tuanku Intan Zaharah binti Almarhum Tengku Seri Setia Raja.

The architecture of this mosque is very unique. It was built on the water of Sungai Ibai’s estuary hence making it the first floating mosque in Malaysia. The mosque also features the influence of Islamic Civilization as well as local workmanship. The architect uses marble, ceramics, mosaic works as well as bomanite paving. What is great about the design is that with the blue interiors and sun reflection on the water around the mosque makes the mosque looks very serene. It sets the mood of the mosque as a place of worship.

The mosque is able to accommodate up to 1000 people in the men praying hall on the first floor and another 1000 people in the women hall at the second floor. Besides the praying hall, the mosque also has royal room, small library, and ablution area and parking that can fit up to 400 cars at once.

How to Get There

By Plane

One may take the local flight such as Air Asia or Malaysia Airlines and fly to Kuala Terengganu. From the airport visitors may take a taxi or services like GrabCar to make their way to the mosque.

By Car

Visitors may drive from Kuala Lumpur and head to Kuala Terengganu. They may take the Kuala Lumpur – Gua Musang Expressway. By heading towards Kuantan, visitors will be able to find their way to Kuala Terengganu. The distance between the two cities are 436 kilometres. It will take around 4 hour and 41 minutes to reach the mosque.
