Senai is a town and mukim in Kulai District, Johor. The town is located along Skudai Highway, a part of Federal Route 1 which connects Johor Bahru with Kuala Lumpur. The name, Senai, is derived from a local tree, Sinai, which thrived in the region in the early 20th century. Senai is the base for Johor Airport which is Senai International Airport and also the base for several major multinational electronics manufacturers. Senai International Airport, formerly known as Sultan Ismail International Airport is an airport in the town of Senai.
The airport is located near Johor Bahru, approximately 32 km north-west of the city center. Senai International Airport is the hub of AirAsia. It was a domestic hub of Malaysia Airlines until the rationalization of its domestic routes to cut the company's losses. After the rationalization, Malaysia Airlines only served two destinations from Senai. Today, the airport is managed by Senai Airport Terminal Services, which took over the operations from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) in 2003.Senai International Airport is able to handle up to 4.5 million passengers and 100,000 tons of cargo per annum.
Senai is accessible from Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Sarawak and other parts of the peninsula. You may take Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, Malindo Air and Firefly flight to reach Senai International Airport. From the airport you may take bus, taxi, uber or grab car to any part of Senai main destinations.
You may drive to Senai where it is about 319 km and 3 hour 18 minutes’ drive from Kuala Lumpur via the North-South Expressway. If you travel from Singapore you may use Singapore Causeway or Second Link Expressway that connect Singapore to Johor as well as the rest of the peninsula.
You may take ETS train from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station (KL Sentral) to reach Johor Bahru. The ETS will stop at Gemas and from there you may take KTM to JB Sentral. You can buy joined ticket that it takes 10 minutes to wait at Gemas for between trains. If you travel from Singapore you may take KTM at Woodlands Station to JB Sentral. From there you may take taxi or bus to reach Senai where it takes only 32 minutes’ drive away.
You can get to Tanjung Belungkor, which is near Desaru, by ferry from Changi Point in Singapore. Ferry services are also available from Batam and Tanjung Pinang in Indonesia to the Johor Bahru International Terminal. From the terminal you may take taxi to reach Senai.
