The Muallim District is the eleventh district and also a new state constituency in southeastern Perak, Malaysia just on the border with Selangor. It was proclaimed by the current Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on 11 January 2016 at the Tanjung Malim District Council Building. It has three areas which are Slim River, West Ulu Bernam and East Ulu Bernam. The towns in these areas are Slim River, Tanjung Malim and Proton City.
It has been given the name Muallim, the Arabic word that means "teacher" because of the existence of Sultan Idris Education University in the proposed district's area which has produced many teachers since the colonial era. The flag of Muallim was designed and made by locals of the district in January 2016 prior to the opening of the new official district.
The 'red' colour of the triangle present in the flag resembles the spirit of youth and the determination of the locals to preserve the district's heritage and economic value towards the Perak State. The 14-pointed star and the crescent both coloured 'yellow' is inspired by the original 'Malaysian' flag which resembles the districts openness policy towards the whole population of Malaysia coming from the 13 member states and the federal government. The top and bottom of the star and crescent combination show the words 'Daerah Muallim' meaning 'Muallim District' written in the 'Jawi' script to symbolize the rich heritage of the people of Muallim.
You can drive a car to Muallim by using the North-South Highway/AH2/E1, it takes 1 hour and 24 minute driving from Kuala Lumpur city centre.
