The Metro Specialist Hospital is the first private hospital in Sungai Petani, Kedah was opened in the year 1993. Back then, it was known as Bersatu Medical Centre, started in just two shop lots and four specialist doctors. The name was changed to what it is now in 1996. Six years later, this private hospital moved to the current premise, which is bigger and much more spacious.

Now the Metro Specialist Hospital resides in a four-storey building with 95 beds, seven intensive care units, four operation theatres, and two dozen of consultation suits with twenty-four specialist doctors. The specialist clinics of the hospital open from Sunday to Thursday, from 9 am to 5 pm. It also opens on Friday, except only until one in the afternoon. The Metro Specialist Hospital is located in the district of Kuala Muda, about a one-hour drive from the capital of Kedah, Alor Setar.

How to Get There

By Car

Driving to the Metro Specialist Hospital from Alor Setar will be going through the North-South Highway for 71 kilometres. If from Kuala Lumpur, it is also via the North_south Highway, and the trip will take about four hours’ worth of driving.

By Bus

Several coaches do have daily trips to Sungai Petani from Alor Setar. Each one-way trip will cost just RM 4.90. The bus station in Sungai Petani is only three kilometres away and from the bus station, one can hail a cab to go to the Metro Specialist Hospital.

By Train

Sungai Petani is accessible via train from several train stations in the country and this service is provided by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Electric Train Service (KTM ETS). It provides a non-stop train ride to the destination. From KL Sentral, the price for one person going to Sungai Petani is RM 62 for the Gold Class while another RM 20 addition for the Platinum Class. The ETS trains that go to Sungai Petani also originates from Ipoh, Taiping, and Batu Gajah, all having different price tags. It is recommended to take the train, especially during the holiday season as the traffic can be very congested, thus increasing the travel times sometimes by more than a couple of hours. It will take about ten minutes’ worth of driving from Sungai Petani train station to the Metro Specialist Hospital.

A recreational park in Sungai Petani that is just five kilometres away from the Metro Specialist Hospital. It has been a part of Sungai Petani since 1983. It was built as a commemoration for the then-ruler, Sultan Abdul Halim’s Silver Jubilee. The park is a great place to have a quality time with family, or maybe a time for self. It is equipped with four playgrounds, a huge upgraded jogging trek, and a cactus park with more than 30 species of cacti. The park is surrounded by greenery, thus giving the place a calming vibe to it. The park opens every day from 6 am to 8 pm.

The Carnival Waterpark

This is one of the top tourist destinations in the state of Kedah. It is also a perfect place to spend for a family holiday trip. With a strategic location, just five kilometres from the town of Sungai Petani, this water park has become a popular tourist spot. There are water-based rides and slides, and pools that are suitable for both adults and children for visitors to enjoy. Apart from that, there are also not water-based activities such as wall climbing, horse rides, and miniature golf. The Carnival Waterpark opens every day except for Wednesday, from 11 am until 7 pm.
