Pengerang International Zen Meditation Centre is a retreat place that is located in the southern state of Malaysia, Johor. Here, in the Zen meditation centre, it applies the way of zen and Buddhist meditation for those who are interested to join. The centre has schedules of activities that will be conducted in the near future on their website and also provide a lot of company or family retreat at the place.
The place is also known as the Kwan Yin Chan Lin Zen Meditation Centre and the company who established this retreat is from Singapore. The retreat centre in Pengerang, Johor, is one of their international centres. There are also several other centres in Johor. The Pengerang International Zen Meditation Centre is located about one and a half an hour drive from Johor Bahru city centre, a hundred kilometres trip via Senai-Desaru Highway.
Driving is the easiest way to access the meditation centre. Apart from the aforementioned road above, there is another road to go to the centre but the trip will be about ten minutes longer via the Johor Bahru East Coast highway despite the length of the drive is the same.
The easiest way to go to Pengerang with a bus is to go to Bandar Penawar in Kota Tinggi district. Pengerang is a sub-district in Kota Tinggi and just thirty kilometres’ away from Bandar Penawar. One bus trip from Johor Bahru to Kota Tinggi will cost at RM 4 and from Kota Tinggi to Bandar Penawar, another RM 4.20 per person. From Bandar Penawar, it is much easier to rent a car to get a taxi to go to the meditation centre, which is about half an hour away.
The Senai International Airport of Johor is about one and twenty minutes away from the meditation centre. Since it is an international airport, it receives both domestic and international flights. The international flights originate from Asia countries such as Indonesia, South Korea and China. From the airport, rent a car to go to the retreat centre as it is much cheaper than to get a taxi to go there.
Just a kilometre from the retreat centre, there is a popular ostrich farm, the Desaru Ostrich Farm. It has more than a hundred ostriches in its huge farm, thus making it possible for the birds to roam and run freely. The farm provides a tour for the visitors to the place, with a tour guide that brings the visitors around the farm while sharing the knowledge and interesting information about the biggest bird on earth. The farm also offers a ride on the ostriches for those who are brave enough to get onto it with a separate charge from the admission fee. Apart from that, the farm also has a small souvenirs shop where they sell crafts made from the ostrich eggshells such as ornaments. There is also a restaurant where the visitor can have an ostrich egg omelette, or maybe an ostrich meat burger. The farm opens daily from 10 am to 6 pm, with an admission fee of RM 12 for an adult and RM 8 for a child.
Located just eight kilometres away from the Pengerang International Zen Meditation Centre, this hotel is located rather secluded, making it the perfect getaway place for those who are looking for a quiet place.
