A family- and baby-friendly hotel. The room was clean, and I happened to get a sea-view room. Since I was bringing a baby, they immediately arranged for an extra crib. The staff was friendly and helpful. During my stay, feeding my baby was a bit tricky, but the staff were very helpful. Breakfast was good, with my favorites being the cakwe (fried cakwe) and the special green tea with marshmallows. The dinner buffet was also good, with favorites being seafood BBQ, martabak, and chicken katsu.

It's a great family stay here. The place is old but has been renovated so it looks new and classic. The rooms are nice and spacious. Then there are lots of games for children and families, one of which is water games like banana boats and jet skis. For children, there is a playground and a swimming pool with lots of fountains, there is also a mini zoo so the children are happy. Breakfast is so-so. But there is a dinner buffet and the price per pax is only 120k, there is super delicious grilled fish, I don't understand anymore. If the weather is good, you can see Mount Krakatau and also a beautiful sunset.

The rooms aren't too many, so they're comfortable and not crowded. The villa can accommodate up to 8 people. The beach is a minute's walk away, clean, quiet, and feels like a private beach, safe for children. The added bonus is that you get dinner! It's rare for a hotel to include dinner, so you don't have to worry about going out at night to find food.

More about hotels in Kasemen

Kasemen: A Coastal Charm Beyond the Usual Indonesian Itinerary

For the discerning Filipino traveller seeking a unique Indonesian escape, Kasemen offers a compelling blend of coastal allure and cultural immersion that sets it apart from more frequented destinations. While Indonesia is renowned for its diverse landscapes, from volcanic peaks to ancient temples, Kasemen, situated in the Banten province, presents a more intimate and accessible slice of Indonesian life. It’s a region where the rhythm of the sea dictates daily life, offering a tranquil counterpoint to the bustling metropolises many travellers associate with the archipelago. Here, you can discover pristine beaches, explore local maritime heritage, and experience genuine Indonesian hospitality without the overwhelming crowds.

The region of Kasemen itself is not a monolithic entity but rather a collection of distinct areas, each offering a different flavour of experience. From the lively shores of Anyer and Carita, known for their water sports and resort amenities, to the more grounded urban pulse of Serang City Center and the quieter residential pockets within Kasemen proper and Curug, the choice of where to base yourself significantly shapes your journey. Understanding these nuances allows travellers to tailor their trip, whether they seek adventure, relaxation, or a deeper connection with local culture, ensuring that Kasemen unfolds according to their personal preferences.

With a starting price point of ₱ 8,920.71 per night, Kasemen presents itself as a destination offering considerable value, especially when compared to international benchmarks. The average review score of 9.7 from 13 reviews for its top-tier accommodations suggests a high level of satisfaction among visitors. For travellers from the United States, Europe, and India, this translates into an opportunity to experience a high-quality Indonesian holiday at a fraction of the cost they might expect in their home countries or other popular global beach destinations. This affordability, coupled with the region's unique offerings, makes Kasemen an attractive proposition for those seeking memorable experiences without breaking the bank.

The accommodation landscape in Kasemen is exemplified by properties like the highly-rated PULAU LIMA RESORT. This establishment, with its impressive 9.7 rating from 13 reviews and a starting price of ₱ 8,920.71 per night, hints at the quality and unique experiences available. It serves as a gateway to understanding the diverse lodging options that cater to various tastes and budgets. For travellers looking to secure their stay in this captivating region, exploring options and making a reservation is straightforward through platforms like Traveloka, where you can easily book hotel accommodations that suit your needs.

Kasemen is a destination that can resonate with a wide array of international travellers. For those from the United States, it offers an exotic yet accessible beach holiday with opportunities for adventure and relaxation. European travellers might find themselves drawn to the region's potential for cultural exploration and its laid-back atmosphere, a welcome contrast to the fast pace of European city life. Indian travellers, often seeking value and vibrant culinary experiences, will appreciate Kasemen's affordability and the rich flavours of Indonesian cuisine. While direct travel from Africa might be less common, the region's appeal lies in its unique coastal charm and the authentic Indonesian experience it provides, making it a worthwhile consideration for any global explorer.

Best Areas to Stay in Kasemen

Kasemen, while a region rather than a single city, offers a diverse range of neighbourhoods, each with its own distinct character and appeal for international visitors. Choosing the right base is crucial for shaping your entire experience, from the proximity to attractions and dining to the overall atmosphere. Whether you're drawn to the lively beach resorts, the convenience of urban centres, or quieter, more secluded spots, Kasemen has an area to suit your travel style. Understanding these different districts will help you pinpoint the perfect location for your Indonesian adventure.

Anyer

Anyer is perhaps the most well-known coastal stretch within the Kasemen region, drawing visitors with its long, sandy beaches and a vibrant resort scene. This area is particularly appealing to travellers from the United States and Europe who are seeking a classic beach holiday experience, complete with water sports and a lively atmosphere. The presence of numerous hotels and resorts, many offering direct beach access, creates a holiday vibe that is both relaxing and engaging, making it a popular choice for those looking to unwind by the sea.

From Anyer, you have easy access to a plethora of water-based activities, including jet skiing, banana boat rides, and surfing, with many resorts offering equipment rental and lessons. The proximity to landmarks like the historical Anyer Lighthouse provides a touch of local history. Getting to Anyer from the main international gateway typically involves a drive, and once settled, exploring local eateries and beachfront cafes is a delight. For those eager to explore beyond the immediate vicinity, it's a great starting point to book attractions and day trips.

Carita

Carita, situated south of Anyer, offers a slightly more laid-back yet still engaging beach experience, often appealing to families and groups looking for a balance of relaxation and activities. Travellers from India, who often appreciate destinations offering good value and a range of recreational options, might find Carita particularly attractive. The beaches here are known for their gentle waves, making them suitable for swimming and a variety of water sports, while the overall atmosphere is less commercialized than some parts of Anyer, offering a more tranquil escape.

Carita is a prime spot for enjoying water sports such as banana boating and jet skiing, with several resorts providing these facilities. The area is also a good base for exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding region, including potential excursions to nearby natural parks. Access from the main airport involves a road journey, and once in Carita, local transport options are available for exploring nearby villages or attractions. The culinary scene here features fresh seafood and local Indonesian dishes, readily available at beachfront restaurants.

Kasemen

The area bearing the region's name, Kasemen, offers a more authentic glimpse into local life, away from the main tourist hubs. This district is ideal for travellers from any background who are keen on experiencing genuine Indonesian culture and interacting with local communities. It provides a quieter, more residential feel, allowing visitors to appreciate the daily rhythms of the region. For those who prefer to step off the beaten path and discover a less commercialized side of Indonesia, Kasemen is an excellent choice.

Within Kasemen itself, you can find local markets and smaller eateries that serve authentic Indonesian cuisine, offering a true taste of the region. While it may not have the extensive resort infrastructure of Anyer or Carita, it provides a more grounded experience. Landmarks like Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 6 Kota Serang are located in this vicinity, offering a glimpse into local education. Transportation within Kasemen relies on local modes, and for those seeking specific attractions, planning day trips to nearby coastal areas or historical sites is recommended.

Serang City Center

Serang City Center serves as the administrative and commercial heart of the region, offering a different kind of urban experience for international visitors. This area is best suited for travellers who appreciate the convenience of city amenities, including shopping, diverse dining options, and good transport links, while still being within reach of coastal attractions. It appeals to business travellers and those who prefer a more urban base from which to explore the wider Kasemen region, offering a blend of local life and modern facilities.

The city center boasts a range of hotels, from budget-friendly to mid-range, and is a hub for local commerce. You can find numerous restaurants serving Indonesian and international cuisine, as well as local markets for shopping. Landmarks such as the Great Mosque of Banten are accessible from here, providing cultural and historical insights. Public transportation within Serang City Center is readily available, and it serves as a good transit point for onward travel to coastal areas like Anyer or Carita. For travellers seeking a mix of city life and easy access to beaches, this area is a practical choice.

Curug

Curug, a district within the broader Serang area, offers a more localized and potentially quieter experience compared to the bustling beach towns. This area might appeal to travellers who are looking for a more immersive cultural experience or a base that is less tourist-centric. It provides an opportunity to see a different facet of life in the region, away from the main tourist trails, and could be particularly interesting for those who have visited Indonesia before and are seeking deeper connections with local communities.

While Curug may not have the extensive tourist facilities of Anyer or Carita, it offers a chance to explore local eateries and understand the everyday life of the region. Its proximity to Serang City Center means that urban amenities and transport links are not too far away, providing a balance between a quieter stay and access to conveniences. For travellers interested in understanding the local fabric of Kasemen, exploring Curug can offer valuable insights into the community and its traditions.

The coastal location means fresh seafood is abundant, often prepared with local spices and served grilled or in flavourful curries. Exploring these authentic tastes provides a deeper connection to the culture and a memorable gastronomic journey.

For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and street food stalls in areas like Serang City Center and the smaller villages within Kasemen is highly recommended. These spots offer a chance to sample a wide variety of dishes at affordable prices. For Muslim travellers, Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country, and Kasemen offers numerous Halal-certified eateries and restaurants, ensuring a comfortable and compliant dining experience. The cost of dining in Kasemen offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food and local warungs (small eateries) can provide a filling meal for as little as ₱ 100-200 (approximately $2-4 USD). Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱ 300-700 ($6-14 USD) per person for a full meal with drinks. Even more upscale dining experiences at resorts or specialized restaurants are generally more affordable than in Western countries, often ranging from ₱ 800-1,500 ($16-30 USD) per person, making Kasemen an accessible destination for food lovers on various budgets.

When dining in Kasemen, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are often communal, and it's polite to accept offered food. While tipping is not mandatory, rounding up the bill or leaving a small gratuity (around 5-10%) for excellent service is appreciated. Many local eateries use communal condiments, so it's customary to take only what you need. Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Kasemen

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Kasemen. Indonesians are generally known for their politeness and hospitality. When visiting religious sites or more traditional areas, dressing modestly is important; covering shoulders and knees is advisable. It's customary to use your right hand for eating and for giving or receiving items, as the left hand is traditionally considered unclean. Always ask permission before taking photographs of people, especially in more rural or traditional settings.

When visiting landmarks like Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 6 Kota Serang or Sauh Bahtera Samudra. PT, it's important to be mindful of local protocols. While these are educational and maritime institutions, showing respect for students, staff, and the environment is paramount. Dress codes might be more conservative than in tourist resorts, so opting for modest attire is wise. Observe any posted rules regarding photography and be aware of the general atmosphere; maintaining a quiet and respectful demeanour is always appreciated.

Safety in Kasemen is generally good, with petty crime being the most common concern, particularly in crowded areas. It's advisable to keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around, often with fixed prices. For longer distances or specific excursions, negotiating fares with local taxi drivers or hiring a car with a driver is also an option. Always ensure your accommodation is in a well-lit and reputable area.

For Filipino travellers, it's crucial to be prepared for emergencies. The national emergency number in Indonesia is 112. While there isn't a Philippine Embassy in Kasemen itself, the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta is the primary point of contact for consular assistance. It's recommended to have their contact details readily available. For health concerns, carrying a basic first-aid kit and considering travel insurance that covers medical emergencies is prudent. Staying informed about any travel advisories issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is also a wise precaution.

Getting to Kasemen and Getting Around

Reaching Kasemen from the Philippines is typically a multi-leg journey, as direct flights are uncommon. Travellers from Manila (NAIA/MNL), Cebu (CEB), or other Philippine hubs will usually fly into Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). Flight durations can range from 8 to 12 hours or more, depending on layovers in hubs like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or other major Asian cities. The estimated cost for a round-trip ticket can vary significantly, but budget around ₱ 15,000 to ₱ 30,000 or more, depending on the season and booking time. From CGK, Kasemen is approximately a 2-3 hour drive, depending on traffic conditions. For those looking to secure their travel plans, it's advisable to book flight tickets well in advance.

Once you arrive in the Kasemen region, getting around offers several options. For travel between major towns like Serang City Center, Anyer, and Carita, local buses and minivans (known as *angkot*) are available, though they can be crowded and follow fixed routes. Taxis are also an option, but it's essential to ensure they use a meter or agree on a fare beforehand. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely used and provide a convenient and often more affordable way to navigate the area, especially for reaching specific hotels or attractions. Renting a car with a driver is also a popular choice for day trips and exploring at your own pace.

The best time to visit Kasemen generally falls within the dry season, which typically runs from May to September. During these months, you can expect sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities and outdoor exploration. The wet season, from October to April, brings higher rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy but often occurs in short bursts, allowing for continued sightseeing. Hotel prices may be slightly lower during the shoulder seasons or the wet season, offering better value for travellers who don't mind occasional rain.

Before departing for Kasemen, a few essential preparations will ensure a smoother trip. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), and while USD may be accepted in some tourist-oriented establishments, it's best to exchange currency for IDR upon arrival or use ATMs. Consider purchasing a local SIM card at the airport for affordable data and calls. Essential apps to download include Google Maps for navigation, a translation app, and ride-hailing apps like Grab.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Indonesia to explore Kasemen, a visa is generally required. While Indonesia offers visa-free entry for citizens of many countries for short stays, Philippine passport holders typically need to obtain a visa. This can often be a Visa on Arrival (VOA) for tourism purposes, allowing for a stay of up to 30 days, which can sometimes be extended. It is crucial to verify the latest regulations with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines, as visa policies can change.

The application process for a VOA usually involves presenting your passport, which must have at least six months of validity remaining, and a return ticket or proof of onward travel. There will be a fee associated with the VOA, which should be paid in USD or its equivalent in Indonesian Rupiah. It is advisable to carry sufficient cash in USD for this purpose. While the process is generally straightforward, having all required documents readily available will expedite your entry into Indonesia.

Given that visa regulations can be subject to change, it is highly recommended that all travellers, including those from the Philippines, confirm the most current visa requirements directly with the official immigration authority of Indonesia or the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines before booking flights or making travel arrangements. This proactive step will help prevent any last-minute complications and ensure a smooth entry into the country for your visit to Kasemen.
