— Important Info —
Located in the northern part of Oita Prefecture, Usa City is divided into 3 areas, each with its own unique history and culture nurtured by the rich natural resources of the environment.
(1) The "Usa Area" with vast plains, located along the coast, preserves various highly acclaimed cultural heritage sites nationwide, such as Usa Jingu Shrine and the Usa Kofun Cluster (Prefectural Historical Museum)
(2) The "Ajimu Area" is centered around a basin, where homes are decorated with kote-e (decorative relief work on plaster) and locals enjoy softshell turtles delicacies
(3) The "Innai Area" features numerous small and large valleys, with many stone bridges due to its valley terrain.
Located on the western side of the Kunisaki Peninsula protruding into the Seto Inland Sea, Usa has been a vital transportation hub since ancient times, connecting to the capital via the inland sea and serving as a gateway to East Asia through the land route to Dazaifu (Fukuoka). This has led to the Hachiman Shrine culture, a fusion of Shinto and Buddhism.
