Cabins are outdated but are comfortable enough

The Big4 was something different for our family of four. It is like an adventure seeing lots of different birds in the premises and listening to the birds every morning was a delight. The kids loved the pool and water park. The two bedroom villa was comfortable and the staff kind. I would like to come back but not in the same villa because it had a very bad odour. We bought an air freshener and opened the windows as I cannot describe how bad the villa smelled. Rather than that, we enjoyed it!

Room rates for cabins are good value. Staff are interested and committed to giving very sound service.

Place was generally very worn, needs a big upgrade. Shower head barely dribbled water. Was clean though.

Nice and quiet

This was our second stay while in Darwin and we were in a slightly bigger cabin so enjoyed the space.

The cabin was suitable for our needs and we enjoyed the grounds and friendly nature of the venue. It was in a good location for us to be close to people we needed to see.

I booked 3 nights. I received absolute NO communication from staff about getting into my room after hours. They claim they sent a text, but I never received one. I tried ringing them at 6.50 pm and again at 8 pm. No answer, only an answering machine which I obviously left my circumstances on. I believe they double booked my cabin and being peak season, decided to get double money for the cabin. (I booked through Wotif.com) so I had to find alternate accommodation at 8.20pm with my 10 year old son. The water park is old and lacks pressure with green algae slime creating a slipping hazard for children. The big coloured bouncing cushion is gone. The pool smells of the nearby brown water disposal system. The septic system either blocked up or couldn’t handle the traffic and needed to be pumped out while we stayed and the smell was unbearable. Being an interstate Dad I have stayed at Howard Springs Big4 over a dozen times in the last 7 years. I won’t stay here ever again.

Room was not clean. Paying that type of money you would think you would get a better place. Check in time was 2:00 pm but still had to wait a hour for the room
