A modern hotel in a historical area. Room Price is reasonable.

Great price , great location , hotel just very run down and old , terrible smell near the downstairs toilet. Breakfast very basic

Was unsure about booking as it had a low customer rating, however in the whole we were pleasantly surprised. The location is excellent just off the high street and overlooking the cathedral at the back. Parking was fine and there were always spaces during our stay. Our bedroom was a good size and the bed very comfortable. No problem with the bathroom. If we were being picky I’d say the bedroom/ bathroom was a little dated but for what we paid was fine. I have to say the hotel isn’t the most attractive visually. A two story boring block on the outside and very brown on the inside!! But again that wasn’t too important to us. Biggest disappointment was the breakfast. Very limited and basic using the cheapest ingredients. If you wanted mushrooms for example they were a special request which no one told you about! So in summary would stay again but go out for breakfast.

Unique view. Central location. Convenient though expensive parking. Bedside light did not work; not the bulb; may have been in this condition some time.

I took the option to book in on line. On arrival the receptionist could not find this so that was a waste of time. The room was ok a bit shabby and cobwebs above the bed. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The air conditioning was very noisy. The bar was often unattended as the coffee machine was not working. The toilets in reception are disgusting with the ladies being blocked up. The staff were nice but didn’t seem particularly motivated. This maybe due to their working environment. Would I stay again absolutely not.

Exactly what we wanted. Welcoming staff, clean room with enormous and comfortable bed. Looking out towards the Cathedral at breakfast time was a real bonus.

I want to headline this review by saying that the staff at this hotel - reception, housekeeping and restaurant - without exception were pleasant, attentive, helpful and professional and they alone deserve a high-star rating. Additionally, the hotel is very well located for all the main attractions in Winchester. However ... I must concur with earlier reviewers and say that this is not a 4* hotel. It may well have been when Margo & Jerry Leadbetter stayed there but now it is dingy, tired and worn. The attention to detail in the cleaning of our rooms and the communal areas was poor - the internal telephone in one room (which didn't even work) had a layer of dust that was so thick it was solid. The bathrooms, while basically clean, were so shabby that it almost felt unhygienic. If we hadn't already paid a not insubstantial amount on check-in, we may well at this point have taken our chances with the Travelodge across the road. We took our concerns to the reception staff who immediately did absolutely the right thing and offered us alternative accommodations and eventually an upgrade to 'executive' rooms which, while in slightly better condition, still lacked in cleanliness with a grape found under one bed and an abandoned sock under the other. Two out of four windows had very makeshift mechanisms which left the rooms a bit draughty. I'm sure that this hotel was - and could again be - very nice, but it's clearly a couple of decades overdue for a refurb. A shame.

The staff were always helpful and friendly, Nothing was to much trouble, Easily accessible to the various historical buildings and obviously the cathedral Will definitely recommend the hotel to colleagues and friends.

Great location for town centre, cathedral and Christmas market. Hotel comfortable albeit a little old fashioned/tired. Staff pleasant.

Hotel centrally placed to visit Winchester, everything within walking distance. Decor very dated but room comfortable and clean. Hotel staff polite and very professional. Enjoyed our stay and would go back again

Room was comfortable and very central to Winchester which was great, however a few external factors made the stay disappointing. Was woken up by a fire alarm Sunday morning ~6am twice. Was disturbed by slamming doors continuously on Monday morning from ~9am. There was no room service available on Sunday evening.

The experience is great little dust in room pillows not to my preference but over all a very enjoyable experience would definitely recommend to anyone and come back again

We stayed here for a weekend in Winchester for the Christmas market. When we arrived in our room we were a little put out by the small bed and the old style of the room, it was a bit like being in the servants quarters! However, we weren't too put off as we had really booked for location. On the first morning we were there an alarm sounded really loudly in the room, after a minute or so it stopped and we didn't think much more, it was probably 10am. The next morning we were woken by the same alarm at about 6.20! Really not ok that early and did not appreciate it. Managed to go back to sleep, only to be woken again! Nothing was said to us as we checked out but hugely disappointed with the alarm situation. 3 times in one weekend, and so early, was really not ok.

No parking available, bathroom mouldy on shower curtain and tiles with cracked tiles on the floor. Fire alarm went off twice. Able to hear couple in above room having s*x, soundproofing on rooms not good. Reception and bar areas nice but rooms more like 2 star. Would not return and definitely not value for money.

The front of house staff were very good. But the cleaning staff were bad, our room was dirty, especially in the bathroom. The rooms are tired and need updating.

Booked a one night stay for birthday trip away, first time in this hotel. Our privilege room was on the top floor with nice view of the cathedral, it was spacious & comfortable the bed was big & particularly comfy & I had a great sleep. Large tv, fridge, good coffee, nice toiletries, robes & slippers all made for a very enjoyable stay. Room was a bit cold on arrival but we plugged in electric heater & it warmed up super quick. I would agree with other reviewers that the hotel it’s self needs a refurb yes paint work was a bit marked & chipped & the window catches were certainly passed their best, the window sill area was all a bit scruffy looking & the table top particularly marked & very much in need of replacement. However the room & bathroom were spotlessly clean so no complaints there from us. Breakfast was a very pleasant experience, good selection of hot & cold food, pastries, cereals, fruit etc the coffee machine takes forever as does the toaster but we weren’t in a hurry so didn’t cause us any issues. All in all a good time was had by us.
