First, we have to realise how much we paid for the bed; second, we all have to read hostel policies when we're booking from any online booking agency (even if it's so small and easily ignoring in the booking pages); third, it is San Francisco, USA, basically nothing is cheap here.
I've been travelling to almost 100 countries, always staying at budget accommodations around the world, by this price in SAN FRANCISCO, USA, I think European Hostel is not too bad. For me, it deserves a five star review.
Remember we paid not too much more than just tips for having a great meal at a good restaurant in USA.
Great location, easily access by bus or BART from airport, Chase Center or other tourist attractions. Room and bed are simple, make sence as we got what we paid, at least they didn't have extra charge for bed sheet.
Kitchen, toilets and showers are actually not too bad, everything works well, no towel and shampoo is normal in a budget hostel, shower water is hot and door is lockable, BUT, in a lowest price accommodation of a huge famous tourism city, you'll never know how worse that some guests can make everything into, it's not the fault of owner or anyone who works here.
No smile is cool, I don't see too much warm smile in budget places of North America and Europe, I think smiles are not included in the bill, and we actually didn't pay extra tips. See more reviews in Google.
Homeless is harmless, mostly.

침대시트를 스스로 끼워야하며, 향균제같은 것을 뿌리는 것 외엔 어떠한 청소도 하지 않음. 바닥에 다른 사람이 두고간 쓰레기가 가득했음.

솔직히 가격이 싸니까 그냥 넘어갈 만 한 정도에요. 딱 가격만큼 합니다. 깔끔하지 않고 그냥 하룻 밤 잘만 해요. 뭔지는 모르겟는데 특유의 생강향?인가가 좀 강하게 나서 별로였어요. 처음에는 조금 무서웠는데 지내보니까 생각보다 그렇지는 않아요! 숙박객들도 나름 친절하신 분들도 많았어요. 프론트도 친절하세요. 담요 더 달라고 햇더니 아주 크고 두꺼운 걸 주셨어요! 싸고 적당히 하룻밤 지내기만 할 곳을 찾는다면 그럭저럭 괜찮습니다.

Management refused to allow me to stay here due to my age (I am 33 years old). Their age requirements seem to fluxuate from day to day and other travelers have stated they have had same issues with the business who are significantly younger than me. Hotels.com refused to cancel the reservation or refund me.

This hotel is a total scam! The price is low but this is what they do, they overbooked their rooms then if you arrive and they don't have a room for you and you've already paid they tell you they're not going to rent it to you for any reason so you go to try to get a refund they refuse to refund and say that you arrived after 10:00 p.m. when you did not they figuring you don't have the time and energy to see it all the way through they get away with it again and again and again and again total scam artists thieves and liars.

Not worth any amount of money. Dangerous Back Alley Entrance. Room had a bunkbed...nothing else, no dresser,desk, chair,no curtains for privacy, no towels, pillow was flat like a comicbook, sheets too small for bed. Upper bed had dead bugs on it.
Booked for 3 nights, Ran out after 1night...Front Desk person Thursday at 500 PM was a Asshat. Rebooked at Hotel Stratford...Great service, Bang for your Buck...much safer.

Visiting from Canada, the hostel was cheap and conveniently located but nothing more than that. If you have high standards wouldn’t recommend.

Absolutely terrible, where do I start!
Before you even get in the building, the street it’s on is just nasty, surrounded by homeless and drug addicts pretty much folded in half! The owner was sleezy and very distasteful, the hallways smelt of urine and smoke, the kitchen was disgusting. The bedrooms were tiny and crammed in with 3 bunk beds and no privacy curtains. The only decent thing was the restrooms. I left after 3 hours and the owner refused to refund my second night as I didn’t expect the first night. STAY AWAY

Staff is super nice and helpful but I made wrong reservations as it’s for people younger than 30 years old and I do not read it … besides, I have to go to airport @ 6 am and circle out 8 am …. I learned to read instructions before I complete my booking … I cancelled and book new place and no refund from Expedia

I wasted money on booking a room for THREE ENTIRE NIGHTS because the booking process DOES NOT DISCLOSE WHEN BOOKING that it was a youth Hostel only and I wouldn’t be allowed to stay there. Nowhere in the booking process is this disclosed. And I wasn’t allowed to be refunded my money. So honestly this was the worst booking experience I’ve ever had. This review doesn't break any of the listed points on the Guidelines for Reviewing my experience so it should be allowed as it's in my right to freedom of speech this is an honest review of how this experience impacted my trip to San Fran. It was a disaster.

I had heard that this was a horrendous place, location and service, and facility and it was true. I had to book last minute for a friend who I could not put up at my place. We pulled up on bicycles 15 mins prior to the reservation time cancelation. We had to literally step over the passed out junkies on the street to ring the door. Finally someone opened the door, only to tell me that the reservation had been canceled because we "no showed". Yet we were there! After some argument, he finally started to agree IF we gave him the $20 deposit. I said whatever I didn't care I just wanted to stop the argument and get a key. He flipped out and started yelling at me and refused me entrance and kept yelling to contact "Expedia" since I booked on there. Like I was a second class citizen, yet this place doesn't even have their own booking engine! It was truly horrible, and another person left there as we pulled away telling how nasty the place was room maintenance and cleanliness wise.
