Mukim Kedawang is the fifth largest of the six sub-districts located in the district of Langkawi, Kedah with an area of 50.97 square kilometres. It is located in the Legislative Assembly and Parliament Kuah, Langkawi. Its population is approximately around 11,692 people with broken for a total of 5,979 male and 5,713 were female. The majority of the population are ethnic Malay Muslims, and there is a small population of ethnic Chinese, Siamese, Europe, India and others. Mukim Kedawang administration is headed by Penghulu with the help of the Committee and Village Development. This place has its own tourist attraction amongst the beauty of the rice fields dotted with mountain ranges and the beauty beaches like Cenang and Tengah beaches. In addition, among the tourist attractions here are the New Gulf Coast, Central Coast, Beach, Underwater World, The Rice and ORAC International Go-Kart.
From KLIA to Langkawi International Airport, flights such as Air Asia, Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines take around 55 minutes. Once you reach airport, you can take a taxi or rent a car to Kedawang area by using Padang Matsirat road or Kuala Muda road which takes another 15 minutes.
Spread across nearly six acres, Underwater World Langkawi is one of the island’s best-known attractions and located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang as well as 12 minutes away from Mukim Kedawang. The huge white-washed structure houses more than 200 different species of marine and freshwater fish including harbour seals, rockhopper penguins, sharks, giant rays and the enormous Amazonian arapaima which is the biggest freshwater fish in the world. The complex is divided into three sections which are tropical Rainforest, temperate and sub-antarctic. The Sub-Antarctic is known for the ‘penguin-arium’ which is a home to little and adorable rockhopper and black-footed penguins and there are Perch Jungle Carps, Orange Spotted Stingrays, Silver Dollar, Red-tailed Catfish and Bala Sharks which you can find at freshwater section. Underwater World also has an educational Resource Centre, a cafeteria and a three-dimensional (3D) theatre and a giant walk-through six million litre underwater tunnel tank which houses an extensive number of fish including sharks, giant stingrays and green turtles.
Located only 10 minutes away from Kedawang, this Island Hopping attraction visits island such as Beras Basah Island, Dayang Bunting Island, Singa Besar Island. The island hopping service starts as early as 9:30am to 1:30pm and latest is at 2:30pm.Visitors are required to be at the Teluk Baru Jetty and the boat will go to the Pulau Beras Basah where the time given is around 1 hour. Next, Pulau Singa Besar is a place where people can enjoy their time with eagles and to Pulau Dayang Bunting where Tasik Dayang Bunting takes place. This schedule is depends on weather and condition of sea. Besides that, this service offers package only for RM300 for chartered boat or pay RM35 per person for sharing. Visitors are advised to bring your swimming suit and life jacket for safety.
There is limited public transport, so most visitors use mainly taxis. You can also rent car and scooter which is easy transportation to travel around Langkawi.
