Padang Mat Sirat is a small town on the island of Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia. Padang Mat Sirat is associated to one of the many tales involving Mahsuri regarding the incident of burning rice.
It is told by many that shortly after Mahsuri was executed in 1821, the Siamese armies came to Langkawi to colonize the island. People of Padang Mat Sirat at that time has collected an amount of rice for the war preparation. However, when it was found that they are unable to protect their land, their leader, Dato Karma Jaya had ordered for the stored rice to be burned as not to be seized by the Siamese armies. Until today, balance of the burning rice still can be found in Raha Village, Padang Mat Sirat.
