Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum is the only museum in Malaysia which exhibits a collection of archaeological evidence of the existence of international trade and the development of Hinduism Buddhism in Southeast Asia during the 3rd BC to 12 BC. Sprawling some 400square km, Lembah Bujang is the richest archaeological site in the country. The museum is located in the Bukit Batu Pahat, Merbok, Kedah about 23 km from the town of Sungai Petani.
Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum was officially opened on January 23, 1980 by Sultan Almu'tasimu Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Shah, Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman in order to carry out research work and archaeological excavation and exhibit artifacts before pre-historic or historic lands of Islam from this site. It was hailed as “Nusantara” or the “seat of all felicities” and was the centre of a flourishing kingdom. Artefacts Archeological exhibited in the museum are materials that prove that this valley was an international port and a trade hub that had been visited by traders that dominated maritime trade routes between countries in the east and the west, mainly traders from China, India, besides Arab traders from the Malay Archipelago who dominated the spice and forest products to the far east market during the 5th century.
There are 2 different airports in Kedah, an international airport in Langkawi and a domestic one in Alor Setar (Sultan Abdul Halim Airport). You may find numerous domestic flights (MAS, Firefly, AirAsia) connected from KLIA and KLIA 2. Airport transfer is available from Sultan Abdul Halim Airport to Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum
The KTMB “Senandung Langkawi” train is a daily overnight train that operates all the way from JB Sentral to the Hat Yai Junction in the South, stopping by in KL Sentral, Butterworth, Sungai Petani and also in Alor Setar. From the train station, take a taxi straight to Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum.
From Kuala Lumpur, you can take an express bus straight to Kedah, either to Sungai Petani or Alor Setar. The journey would take approximately 4 to 5 hours to get there. The express bus will stop at Terminal Bas Shahab Perdana. From there, take a local bus to the museum.
