One of interesting place is Puu Jih Shih Temple a Buddhist temple that located at the hilltop of Tanah Merah at Sandakan Bay in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia. It can be categorized as one of the largest Chinese temple for the town and situated around 4 km from the town centre. The temple was built since 1987 and officiated by Joseph Pairin Kitingan, the Chief Minister of Sabah at that time. The infrastructure of the temple has a unique design as it was built with brave and prosperity color and symbol such as reds, golds and twining dragons. The temple also was decorated with lanterns that will illuminating the surrounding at night. Not only that, it has such a spectacular sea view overlooking Sandakan, once you are at the Puu Jih Shih temple. Because of that, in 2003 this temple has been chosen to be featured in the American television series of The Amazing Race 4.
The temple is about 4km from the centre. Therefore, you have to take a bus to Tanah Merah and ask for directions.
